An Update of Things...

Hey everyone!

How is everybody doing? I know it has been quite a while since the last time I updated you guys on what is going on in my wonderful and exciting (not really wonderful or exciting but i had to make a point) life here in Louisville and in Northern Kentucky. This post will be an update on just about everything since the last time i posted something.

Ok, where to start... hmm let's see here.. how about the beginning of the semester! Well.. this semester started off as a pretty cold one. I had to wear several layers of clothes just to walk to class. We had two snow days as well. During the snow days my roommates and I played in the snow, explored the ice covered campus and took some photos.

My classes this semester were pretty interesting, I started out with 5: Art of the Book, Documentary Photo, Art History, English 291, and Spanish 2. A few weeks into the semester I dropped Spanish 2. My other classes were pretty interesting this semester,

English class... well it was English class, i think my professor may be slightly insane.. but aren't we all? Overall, it was an easy class.
Art History- I had this class once a week on Monday nights. I learned a lot from this class. We talked about Art in the 21st Century and how certain styles and movements have changed over the years.
Documentary Photo- for this class, I had to volunteer at a local non profit organization and document my experience there through photographs. I volunteered at a place called Redwood. It was very hard for me at first, after a few visits, talking and interacting with everyone got a little easier, towards the end there was a lot of miscommunication with the staff and visits where harder to schedule. I am happy that class is finished now, I have never really been a fan of photographing people.
Lastly, Art of the Book- this class was pretty fun. Basically, we made 2 different kinds of books, looked through photo books, and learned different styles and techniques used in photo books. I made an accordion book from Guatemala photos I have taken, and i made and published a book about the Disney trips my family has taken. I included the link to the book below. There is a 15 page preview to how you part of my book. Feel free to order it if you'd like :) I reccommend getting the hard back book, the soft cover tends to warp and not close all the way. I also have a $10 off coupon you can use. just type in eduCreateQ29 into the discount/coupon box. Or.. if you would rather have free shipping.. type in hpfreeshipping into the discount/coupon box.

That is about all that has been going on at school. I just took my last exam yesterday, so I am home for a short break (approximately 4 days) then I am heading back to NKU for a 3 week summer class. I am taking Biological photography, in this class we are going to take photos through microscopes, close-ups of plants and animals, and a number of other biologically oriented photographs. I am looking forward to this class, I think that I will learn a lot from this class and am exciting to be taking it.

In other news... as most of you know we got a puppy! On February 15, Lexi was added to our family :) She is a darker colored yorkie and spoiled rotten. About a month ago, she jumped off the couch and broke her right front leg. She had surgery and had a pin put in it. She is almost completely healed, but because the weather has been so crappy lately, she still tends to limp around and not use her right front leg. The Vet said it won't be too much longer and she will be completely healed.

My sister, Katie, got a new car about a month ago as well. She got a new car because, she was driving one evening, lost control of her car, flipped, and totaled it. She walked away unharmed and shaken up. Thank Goodness.

My Grandma Judy, found out she had a staph infection in her foot, was rushed to the hospital and has surgery on her foot. About a week ago she had her gallbladder removed as well. She is currently living in my living room and my mom has been taking care of her.

That is about all that has been going on lately with me. I am going to try my best to keep updating this on time. Hope everyone is having a great day!

Quick Blog

So... it has been about a month since the last time i wrote. Sorry about that, I'm sure all of you daily viewers were wondering what was going on up here in northern KY. Truth be told, not a lot lot of anything.  I'm just going to make a quick list of each week that has passed. I will update better soon. I'm hoping i have a little time during Christmas Break. Only 8 more days! Thank goodness, I'm ready for a break.

Ok so lets see...

On November 8th, My dad and Katie came up to spend the day with me and go to the UofL vs. NKU basketball game. We had a good time, and the game was good too.

November 21- I came home so I could lead a retreat in Brown County, IN with St. Michael's (the church i go to Guatemala with). We had a lot of fun, even though it was freezing outside, we were able to hike through a few of the trails and enjoy music, s'mores, and good company around a bonfire Friday and Saturday night. This was the first retreat i have been on where i was a leader, I really enjoyed myself and I hope to be invited back for more retreats.

Then Came the very short Thanksgiving Break- More like a tease than a break. We had an awesome Thanksgiving meal at my Grandma and Grandpa's house, and had some fun acting crazy after dinner. We played a game called Encore? (I think that is what it was called.) It is a game where you have to sing bits of songs to try and beat the other team. We played kids against the grown ups, and let me just say.. the kids kicked butt :)

Then in the blink of an eye it was December. It kind of snuck up on me. I knew it was right around the corner, but I didn't think it was this close. Can you believe there are only 21 more days of 2009? Where did this year go?

December 5- we went to the infamous Nutcracker with Grandma. I LOVE the nutcracker. I don't think i will ever get tired of going to see it. After the nutcracker we enjoyed a nice fancy dinner at... you ready for this...... Waffle House. Only the best for us. We figured it would be one of the only places open after the ballet.

December 6- Mom, Katie, Grandma, Donna, Denise, Kayla, and I went to a Christmas Tea at Fern Creek Christian. This year, instead of a speaker talk to everyone, there was a choir. The choir did a great job. The people in the choir are people from Wayside Christian who either work there or are a recovering drug addict or alcoholic. A few of the ladies in the choir sat at our table and they were very nice. I would like to buy one of their cd's.
Donna- i think you should look into that...

So now we are all caught up.. The only thing currently going on is the ton of homework and stress of finals this week and next week. I can't wait until Christmas Break. I just wish it would hurry up and get here.

Halloween 2008

This year for Halloween, my roommate and I went all out. We signed up to hand out candy Norse-O-Ween, an event where kids can come and safely trick or treat in the dorms on campus.  We also participated in a door decorating contest that was held in our building. I'm not sure who won this contest, I haven't heard anything about the results just yet.  Below are some photos of our decorated door and common room. Enjoy.

The top of our door.

Here is a full view of the door from an angle.

This is the "kitchen" in our common room all lit up by the black light we put up.

This is a little dancing skeleton we had on the wall glowing in the black light.

Landscape Photos

Here are the results from my last photo project.

The pictures are a little different printed out, the colors are much more saturated and intense. On here they look very flat and dull. Sorry about that.

Sunday October 19, 2008

On Sunday, October 19 after church Katie, Erica, and I hung out for most of the day.

The Day Started out with Lola, we played with her and took her for a short ride in the car.
Then it was off to Qdoba for lunch. After lunch we went to the mall and walked around and played in the Halloween store.

Here I am as a Chinese Alien...

Of course we had to stop for ice cream! Here is a photo of mine and Katie's chocolate dipped cones.  We took our ice cream to the park to eat :)

I was photo-stalking Katie as she was eating her ice cream, she finally noticed with two bites left, I got a photo of her realizing what I was doing.
